Williamstown's winning run continues

on . Posted in Blog

Williamstown have continued their fine late season form making it seven wins in a row after defeating North Ballarat by thirteen points in round nineteen of the Peter Jackson season at a cool Eureka Stadium in Ballarat. The Seagulls booted five goals to nil in the third quarter and although they failed to kick a goal in the final term themselves, they managed to hold the home side at bay winning 9.17.71 to 8.10.58.

Players from both sides watched on prior to the game as China slugged it out with Finland in a round of the AFL’s International Cup series. The willingness at the contest of the internationals may have inspired the Seagulls as they jumped out of the blocks booting the first two goals of the main game.

North Ballarat has all but assured themselves of a place in this year’s Peter Jackson VFL finals series after overrunning Coburg in the final quarter of their round 17 clash at Piranha Park. The Roosters held a slender five point lead at the final change but booted clear early into the last term to finally win by 26 points - 12.18.90 to 10.4.64.

In the corresponding game last year the Lions scored an upset win and a repeat was on the cards at three-quarter-time. The Roosters responded to coach Gerald Fitzgerald's plea to 'embrace the challenge' and 'get into it' kicking three quick goals to end any hope of a home side victory.

Werribee have moved into the top four after defeating the Northern Blues by 29-points in round fifteen of the Peter Jackson VFL season at Visy Park. The loss for the Blues relegated them from the eight and they now face an up-hill battle to regain a spot in it as their topsy-turvy season continues.

The Tigers were inaccurate in front of goal but worked harder around the ground in the cool conditions to win 11.18.84 to the Blues 8.7.55. In an even competition, the clash was critical in the quest for either side to figure deeper into the season.
