Saints in box seat: Round 7 Bartercard Victorian Premier League Cricket.
St.Kilda has placed themselves nicely for the points in their Bartercard Victorian Premier League cricket round seven clash with Casey South Melbourne at the Junction Oval. After a week of in-different weather in Melbourne the toss was crucial and surprisingly Casey skipper Jolyon Leaver invited the home side to bat first. With a bit in the wicket the Saint's bowlers dominated early as Daniel Mueller claimed three to have Casey reeling at 4-39. With their backs to the wall Chris Hall, above, joined Leaver to combine in an 81-run partnership to add some respectability to the score.
Leaver was eventually dismissed for 62 holing out to cover where former Frankston captain, Matthew Chasemore, making his debut for the Saints, accepted the catch off Shea Gribben. With their captain gone Casey again got the wobbles. Hall departed soon after for 32 with the score on 7-153.Tailenders Lachlan Sperling, 20, and Andrew Perrin, 17, lifted the tally to 190 which was a fair effort after Casey's poor start. Mueller, 4-63, Gribben 4-39 and Blade Baxter 2-37 were the destroyers for the Saints. Chasemore bowled without luck to finish with 0-26 from ten overs but took three catches to be a fine contributor for his new team.
At stumps St.Kilda are a cautious 1-27 from 18 overs. Josh Manning the batsman out caught off Brendan Rose for twelve with Tom Morris, 10, and Rummans, 4, the not out batsmen. Casey will be looking for quick wickets on day two next Saturday to keep the game alive.
