Collingwood upset reigning Premier in a thriller

Collingwood have upset reigning premier Footscray by four points in round three of Peter Jackson VFL at Victoria Park to record their first win of the season. The Bulldogs, trailing by as much as 37-points early in the game, hit the front in the final quarter but the Magpies rallied to regain the lead and win 16.4.100 to 14.12.96.

 

Jordan De Goey threw his hat in the ring for AFL promotion with three goals while Ryan Pendlebury was prominent in defence and Brenden Abbott was lively with two goals. For the Bulldogs Jack Redpath booted three and was pivotal in their fightback while Lachie Hunter with 28 touches and Shane Biggs with 30 also figured in their sides best.

 

 

Williamstown in a nail-biter over Blues

Williamstown have opened their account with a thrilling 1-point win over the Northern Blues in the opening round of the Peter Jackson VFL season at the newly named Ikon Park. The Blues had a chance to pinch the win late in the game however Williamstown defender Michael Gibbons out pointed the Blue’s Dylan Buckley in the goal square to take a game saving grab.

In accurate kicking didn’t help the Northern Blues cause as the Seagulls hung onto win 13.12.90 to 12.17.89. The Blues kicked with a slight breeze advantage in the first term favouring the Legends Stand end but it was Williamstown who opened the scoring.

 

Port Melbourne on the board with win over Blues

A new look Port Melbourne have opened their account with a 23-point win over a gallant Northern Blues at North Port Oval in round two of the Peter Jackson VFL season last Saturday. On a wet Anzac Day the Borough were made to fight hard with the Blues edging to within a point early into the final term before the home side lifted to record a 15.14.104 to 11.15.81 win.

 

Port Melbourne small forward, Blake Pearson, was the star, booting a game-high four goals while full-back Daniel Noonan restricted the Blue’s Matthew Watsons influence after quarter-time, interim skipper Chris Cain was also prominent gathering 26 possessions. Tom Wilson (23 disposals, one goal) and Nick Graham (26) figured again in the Blue's best and ruckman Robbie Warnock’s (19) good form continued with 35 hit outs.

 

 

Ringwood VPL Premiers For Season 2014 - 2015

Ringwood have taken out the Bartercard Victorian Premier League cricket title with a resounding win over Monash Tigers at the Junction Oval. The Rams dismissed the Tigers for 184 early on the third day some 167 runs short of the Rams total of 351.

Rams all-rounder, Ian Holland (above), was awarded the John Scholes Medal for man-of-the-match honours scoring 109 with the bat and backing that up with 5-42 with the ball. It is only the second time in the competition’s history a player has scored a century and taken five wickets in a season decider; The other being Sam Loxton for Prahran in 1954-55.
