Hawthorn-Monash secure first Premier League win in almost a year.

Hawthorn Monash secured their first win in almost twelve months with a three-wicket victory over Greenvale in round three of the Bartercard Victorian Premier League cricket season. The Hawks finished on 7-213 to overtake Greenvale's 8-212 in the second last over of the day thanks largely to a fine century from Kumar Sarna (above).

Sarna compiled 107 and was supported by opener Grant Westgarth (35) and keeper Locky Inglis (36) to steer the Hawks home. The Hawks won the toss and sent the home side in on a slow wicket at Greenvale Reserve.

 

Cannons fire in Qualifying Final to thump Rebels

The Calder Cannons have stamped their authority on this year's TAC Cup finals series with a thumping 99-point win over the North Ballarat Rebels in the first qualifying final at Carlton's Visy Park. A ten goal haul in the final term saw the Cannons dominate play winning 25.10.160 to the Rebels 9.7.61.

It wasn't looking that way early however as the Rebels booted the first five goals of the match to catch the Cannons off guard, lively forward Jesse Palmer snaring three in a five minute blitz before adding another shortly afterwards; the Rebels taking a 21-point lead into the first break.

 

 

Dragons move into Preliminary Final

The Sandringham Dragons have booked a preliminary final bout with the Oakleigh Chargers after defeating the wounded North Ballarat Rebels in the second semi-final of the TAC Cup finals series at Visy Park, trailing at the final change, the Dragons overran the Rebels in the final quarter booting seven goals to one to win 15.8.98 to 9.12.66. Josh Clayton led the way on the scoreboard for the winners with three goals, all in the last quarter, while Jordan Matera and Malcolm Neiwand both booted two. Joel Cowan was the leading goal-kicker for the Rebels with three and centre-half-back, Oscar McDonald kicked two after shifting forward in the second-half.

 

Port Melbourne demolish North Ballarat in final round.

Port Melbourne has given North Ballarat a good old fashioned hiding in their final round clash of the Peter Jackson VFL season at North Port Oval. The Borough booted the first eight goals of the game, amassing 44 scoring shots to 18 in their demolition of the Roosters winning 24.20.164 to 7.11.53.

 Spring was in the air at Port Melbourne with the smell of premiership success in the nostrils of the Borough faithful who had gathered beneath the Norm Goss Stand. Before you could blink the home side were six goals in front at the first change with Toby Pinwell in everything kicking two goals and Daniel Connors on the board early in his quest to secure the Frosty Miller Medal.
