Racking them up in Bendigo.
The world's best snooker players converged on Bendigo recently to compete at the Australian Goldfields Open Tournament. The tournament, in it's third year, featured world number one, Australian Steve Robertson, who was world champion back in 2010.
Reigning tournament champion, Englishman Barry Dawkins, was looking to defend his title but crashed out in round two when beaten by fellow Londoner Tom Ford. Robertson accounted for Marcus Campbell, Jamie Cope, Joel Perry (qf) and the talented Mark Selby (sf) on his way to a showdown with Hong Kong's Marcos Fu in the final.
His opponent on the other hand desposed of Ken Doherty, Shaun Murphy, Dominic Dale (qf) and Robert Milkins (sf), all wins comprehensive until the 6-4 struggle with Milkins in the semi-final.
Fu was ranked nine for the tournament with crowd favourite Robertson third behind Dawkins and Selby. The Bendigo Entertainment Centre was packed for the best of nineteen frames final and punters were biting their nails when Fu had Robertson on the back foot at 7-4. The blonde haired Aussie won the next two frames to make it 7-6. Fu bounced back to get some breathing space 8-6 and needing just one more frame for the title. That he did. A break of 102 in the fifteenth frame sealed the win 9-6 in a stunning display.
