The Monash Tigers remain at the top of the Bartercard Victorian Premier League one-day ladder following their 63-run win over Footscray-Edgewater in round twelve at the Merv Hughes Oval. Monash reached a modest total of 211 from their fifty overs before dismissing the Bulldogs for just 148 in the 43rd over.

The game was evenly poised midway through the Bulldogs innings at 3-95 but when Travis Dean (above), who had been looking good, hit one straight to Andrew Chalkley at cover off Samuel Kerber, it triggered a collapse in which they lost their last seven wickets for just  43 runs.

State and national all-rounder, Clint McKay (above), has guided Essendon to a strong win over Fitzroy-Doncaster in round seven of the Bartercard Victorian Premier League at Schramms Reserve in Doncaster. McKay came to the wicket with the Bombers in trouble at 6-165, still 87 runs in arrears of the Lions 252, but a 77-run partnership with Nishal Perera steered the Bombers to within 11 runs of victory.

McKay eventually fell for 71 off just 66 deliveries including nine boundaries and three sixes; Perera seeing them home with a boundary of Chris Moore in the eighty-second over after some cautious batting with tail-ender James Damjanovski.

Prahran move to top of the ladder after win over Carlton.

Prahran have overtaken Carlton as the Bartercard Premier League leaders after beating the Blues in a low scoring T20 clash at Toorak Park in round eleven. The True Blues did it the hard way eventually edging past Carlton’s score of 77 with eight balls to spare and two wickets in hand.

Carlton skipper, Tim Welsford, won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked a flat wicket. A short boundary to the eastern side of the ground would have had batsmen licking their lips; however the regularity of wickets tumbling provided little opportunity for lusty hitting during the match.

Chasemore haul helps Saints demolish Dandenong.

St.Kilda all-rounder, Matt Chasemore (above), has continued his fine season taking 5-21 as the Saints rolled Dandenong for just 128 in round seven of the Bartercard Victorian Premier League at the Junction Oval. Chasemore is currently second on both the competition’s bowling and batting averages and many would wonder why he hasn’t been afforded the opportunity to play for his state.

St.Kilda won the toss and sent the visitors in on what appeared a good strip for batting but local knowledge paid off early for the Saints as they soon had Dandenong in trouble.  Four of the first five batsmen for the Panthers failed to reach double figures as Lachlan Graf, Daniel Mueller and Chasemore helped themselves to wickets.
