Prahran power home against the Magpies thanks to Hussey century.

Prahran have boosted their Bartercard Victorian Premier League finals aspirations with a comfortable first innings win over the Camberwell Magpies in round eight at Toorak Park. State player David Hussey (above) made the trip across from the MCG where he was 12th man in the shield clash against South Australia and clinically sliced apart the Camberwell attack to score a fine century. But it was Prahran's bowlers that set up the win. They had the Magpies on the backfoot early on the first day at 3-36 and never looked back. Luck may have gone against the Magpies early in their innings but apart from a 37 run stand between Justin Lampard, 25, and captain-coach Brendan Drew, 24, their innings never got going.

Prahran's attack with Steven Singh (3-22), James Miller (3-17), Adam Hutton (2-18), Dimitri Mascarenhas (1-29), and Nathan McNally (1-0) were in control from the outset as they all helped themselves to wickets; The only highlight for the 'Pies being 'Frank' Lampard's two cracking sixes off former national spinner Bryce McGain, the first crashing into the stand at Toorak Park.

The Magpies total of 120 from 51.5 overs was never going to be enough against a Prahran batting line up featuring the class of Hussey. Openers Adam Bull and Andrew Powell came out on the attack and scored freely until Powell was bowled by spinner Jack McNamara when the score was 52. Enter Hussey. He toyed with the Pies attack making 103 from 103 balls including sixteen boundaries and a six. Bull was brilliantly run out by Thomas Russ for 31, the next best score of the innings, Prahran eventually declaring on day two with the score at 8-220, a lead of an even 100 runs.

Camberwell’s bowlers could do little to stop the class of Hussey with McNamara (3-64), William Walker (2-31) and Simon O’Brien (2-62) the wicket takers. Camberwell fared much better in their second dig with the pitch and weather conditions perfect for batting. Thomas Rickarby (64no) and Simon Hill (90no) putting on an un-beaten stand of 166 after the early dismissal of Glen Parker for one.

The win lifts Prahran into sixth spot on the overall ladder whilst the Magpies are three points adrift of the top eight in thirteenth place.
