Port Melbourne's season over: 2013 VFL

Port Melbourne's in-different year finished abruptly on Saturday when a polished Williamstown team easily disposed of the Borough by 87 points.The match was all but over as early as half-time when the Seagulls led by 50 points. They went berserk in the third quarter piling on twelve goals and at one stage in the final term they led by 110 points!

Western Bulldog AFL-listed player Jason Tutt outstanding with five goals while recently delisted Bulldog, Patrick Veszpremi, booted four. Seagull's ruckman Cameron Wood was instrumental in the win with 27 effective hitouts, however, Wood was reported late in the last quarter for allegedly striking Port Melbourne's Sam Gilmore.

Tigers put a dent in Blue's finals hopes: VFL Round 18.

The Northern Blues finals aspirations may well be over following a 48-point defeat at the hands of Werribee in the penultimate round of the Peter Jackson VFL season at Visy Park. Needing to win to remain in the top eight and missing several key players, whether through injury or promotion to the aligned AFL Carlton team, the Blues struggled from the outset. An eight goal to nil third quarter sealed the deal for the Tigers and despite the Blues kicking seven themselves in the last term the result had been put beyond doubt. The Tigers had too many options in front of goal with talls Ben Brown and Ben McKinley and small forwards Addams Maric and skipper Robbie Castello all snaring three goals.

Played in blustery conditions and with rain threatening the Tigers began well and took a nine-point lead into the first break. Blue Sam Rowe providing the highlight of the quarter with a towering mark at the Royal Parade end of the ground. The signs began to look ominous for the Blues in the second quarter.

Essendon end North Ballarat's season: VFL Round 19.

Essendon have ended North Ballarat’s season with a 39-point win in the final round of the Peter Jackson VFL season at Windy Hill. With both sides needing to win to have any chance of playing finals the Bombers skipped away from the Roosters after an even first half to kick ten goals to six after half time to win 18.17.125 to 13.8.86. For the winners, lively goal-sneak Corey Dell’Olio and Matthew Bate each kicked three, whilst for North Ballarat, Captain Michael Searl bagged a game-high four goals and Sam Scott kicked two, both in the first quarter.

In cloudy but otherwise fine conditions and with little breeze, the first quarter was a beauty producing twelve goals. At one stage North Ballarat slammed on five un-answered goals shooting out to a lead of 18 points before the Bombers were able to square the ledger by quarter time. In the second quarter goals became hard to come by as both sides tightened their defence. Bombers Leroy Jetta and skipper Ben Duscher goaled for Essendon to open up a small break before Searl pegged one back for the Roosters. The Bombers taking a ten-point lead into the main break much to the delight of their loyal fans.

Roosters blow chance to move into top eight - VFL Round 16.

North Ballarat missed a golden opportunity to grab a spot in the top eight in round sixteen of the Peter Jackson VFL season when they went down to a tenacious Coburg Tigers at the Mantello Holden Oval. The Tigers kicked six unanswered goals in the final term to overrun the Roosters winning 15.11.101 to 13.7.85. The loss sees them now in a three-way battle with the Northern Blues and Essendon with Frankston one game further back and just three matches remaining.

Coburg string-bean forward, Liam McBean, was the star of the day bagging six goals in a match-winning display. It was a game the Roosters were expected to win, given their recent form and push for finals action. However The Tigers, ahead of only the winless Bendigo Gold on the ladder, were relentless in their attack on the ball and despite the rain in the last quarter they managed to overcome a three-quarter-time deficit and record a stirring win.
