Fitzroy-Doncaster have remained in the hunt for finals action in the Bartercard Victorian Premier League cricket competition knocking  over Frankston on the third-last ball of the day at Schramms Reserve in round fifteen. The Heat elected to bat on at the commencement of day two as Luke Walker and skipper Jayde Herrick both passed the century mark in an unbeaten 195-run partnership. Herrick finally declaring Frankston’s innings closed at 3-341 with Walker on 126 and Herrick an even 100 from 109 balls.

On a flat wicket with a short boundary to one side, the Lions would have been confident of reeling in the Heat’s total. They began well with openers Matthew Bremner and Peter Dickson putting on 57 before Bremner edged one to keeper Samuel Wiese off Jake Wood for 22. Timothy Sheehan (5) and Dickson (44) both fell  to Wood soon after as the Lions looked a little shaky at 3-78.

Prahran power home against the Magpies thanks to Hussey century.

Prahran have boosted their Bartercard Victorian Premier League finals aspirations with a comfortable first innings win over the Camberwell Magpies in round eight at Toorak Park. State player David Hussey (above) made the trip across from the MCG where he was 12th man in the shield clash against South Australia and clinically sliced apart the Camberwell attack to score a fine century. But it was Prahran's bowlers that set up the win. They had the Magpies on the backfoot early on the first day at 3-36 and never looked back. Luck may have gone against the Magpies early in their innings but apart from a 37 run stand between Justin Lampard, 25, and captain-coach Brendan Drew, 24, their innings never got going.

Northcote have given themselves every chance to play finals this year after amassing almost three hundred against top side Footscray Edgewater in round fifteen of the Victorian Premier Cricket League at the Bill Lawry Oval. Thanks largely to a maiden century from Ben Abbatangelo (above), the Dragons will fancy their chances heading into day two next Saturday.

On a green but firm wicket Northcote were in trouble early at two for eighteen after losing both openers cheaply. Abbatangelo was joined by skipper Steven Taylor and together the pair resurrected the Dragon's innings with a massive 172-run partnership.

St.Kilda has placed themselves nicely for the points in their Bartercard Victorian Premier League cricket round seven clash with Casey South Melbourne at the Junction Oval. After a week of in-different weather in Melbourne the toss was crucial and surprisingly Casey skipper Jolyon Leaver invited the home side to bat first. With a bit in the wicket the Saint's bowlers dominated early as Daniel Mueller claimed three to have Casey reeling at 4-39. With their backs to the wall Chris Hall, above, joined Leaver to combine in an 81-run partnership to add some respectability to the score.
