Tigers tame Bombers

25 May 2026

Longford’s improvement continued in round six of the NTFA Premier League with a resounding 101-point win over North Launceston at Longford. The Tigers set up their win with an eight goal to one second term and proved far too strong for the Bombers going onto win 18.12.120 to 2.7.19.

It was Longford’s third win in succession since their surprise defeat to Deloraine in round three and they now sit third on the ladder behind Launceston and South Launceston respectively.

Played before a strong home crowd in good conditions the Tigers quickly gained the ascendency and had they kicked straight early would have been eight goals up by the first break. Key forwards Michael Larby and Mitchell Bennett had days out booting five goals each while their better players included Bennett, Jack Donnellan across half forward with two goals and midfielders Johsua Gray and Lachlan Dakin.

For the Bombers defenders Lucas Kerr and skipper Fletcher Bennett tried hard under constant pressure down back while onballers Jack Blackwell and Samuel Husband worked hard around the ground.

The Tigers are two points off South Launceston in second place but well behind on percentage while North Launceston remain in fifth spot percentage behind Deloraine inside the top four.
