Deloraine have won consecutive games for the first time this season when they accounted for Scottsdale by 38-points at a chilly Deloraine football ground in round ten of the NTFA Premier League. The Kangaroos set up their win with a six goal to nil second term and went on to record a 14.9.93 to 8.7.55 victory.
Darcy Huett kicked a game-high three goals for Deloraine while Jamieson Nunn led the way for Scottsdale kicking two. Car spaces were hard to find around the country ground situated in the centre of the disused racetrack, once famous for the Tasmanian Grand National Steeplechase. The home side had the horse power in the first half kicking ten goals to the Pies three, holding them goalless in the second term.
Huett was dangerous up forward and Kye Chilcott kicked a couple drifting down there as well while skipper Laiden Bloomfield and Jaylen Chilcott kept the Magpie attacks under control. The home side kicking six unanswered goals in the second quarter to lead by 45-points at the main break.
In the home side’s rooms coach, Nick Milbourne, was urging his charges for a big third quarter happy with their work rate and encouraging them to kick the first couple in the term and put the game beyond doubt. However, as the shadows stretched across the ground and the lights came on, it was Scottsdale who came out with purpose. They won the quarter outscoring Deloraine four goals to one to be within 27-points at the final change. Brad Tuffin was working hard in the ruck for the Pies while captain Joseph Krushka and Jamieson Nunn provided targets on the forward line.
Scottsdale peppered the goals early into the final quarter but couldn’t find a major to bridge the gap. Deloraine kicked the next three goals, two of them to Bloomfield to cap off a good game for the Roo’s captain, to stretch the margin back out beyond forty points and the match was all but over.
Better players for the winners included Bloomfield, Kye and Jaylen Chilcott while Ely Blizzard got the Roo’s buzzing early on his wing. For Scottsdale Bradley Milne tried hard at full-back, Tuffin in the ruck, Krushka and Alex Towns in the middle both worked hard to keep the Pies in the game.
Scottsdale coach Ethan Petterwood left lamenting another loss for his side. He would have been happy with their fight, especially in the second half, however they again rued giving the opposition a start.
