Freshney's nine helps Latrobe sink Swans.

31 May 2026

Latrobe has made it three-in-a-row with a 130-point drubbing of bottom side East Devonport at Girdlestone Park in round eight of the NWFL. A nine goal haul from Jack Freshney was the highlight of the day in the Demons' 21.11.137 to 1.1.7 thrashing. The Demons hit the ground running with six straight goals in the opening quarter with Jack Rushton and coach Josh Ponting in the thick of it early. Another six goals in the second term saw the lead stretch out to 73-points at the main break with the Swans failing to kick a goal. Latrobe skipper Alex Lee was having a good duel with his East Devonport counterpart Jack Purser in the ruck, however, any good work from the later was quickly snapped up by the likes of Ponting and Rushton. A second quarter highlight from Latrobe’s Kieren Walker with a fine dribbling goal from the pocket at the John Street end which brought the small crowd to their feet. More of the same in the second half although light rain at times made conditions greasy and Latrobe could only find nine more goals after the main break. The home side eventually bringing up their first goal in the third quarter thanks to Caleb McPherson but it was of little consolation in a disappointing outing. Apart from Freshney's bag Rushton and Brayden Scott kicked three each while their best included Ponting, Scott, Lee, Freshney and Rushton. Better players for the Swans included Sonny Leedham who tried hard in defence along with Dylan Moore and Taj Taylor while Jackson Jones and Fynley Storan ran hard all day. Latrobe are now fifth on the ladder with five wins and just a game off second placed Burnie while East Devonport remain cemented at the bottom of the table yet to win a game.
